I have been doing some analysis of phase stability timescales with ALMA test data and decided to explore whether ALVAR could provide another useful tool for characterizing the data. (Also, I liked the name). I recognize that being ALMA, this is off-label use.
These data sets often have a sequence of relatively short scans on a source with gaps in-between (e.g., cycles of one-minute on, four minutes off). As I understand from your response, this could indeed be risky if one is exploring timescales shorter than the interscan gap (unless one uses TIMERANG to isolate single scans).
Regarding DOCRT, DOCRT=-3 was what I had been using (and produced the short header followed by blank line). In general I do like keeping the short headers (which a fortran read can ignore), just not the blank in this particular case.
Lynn
