My emacs does not show anything wrong.  i will send the file back just 
in case the mail has stripped the bad stuff.

Try

cp $APLUNIX/ZABORS.C ZABORS.c

(note the lower case c in second name.

Then
/usr/bin/gcc -c -03 -fomit-frame-pointer -funroll-loops \
-I/home/aips/AIPS/31DEC11/INC -D_FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64 \
-DHAVE_LINUX_GLIBC ZABORS.c

and see what happens.
