  DOCONCAT...If true (>0) and the input data are VLBA binary tables
             (directly from the correlator) then data are to be
             appended to an existing file if possible....

The above is the Help file for FITLD and states that this only works
FITS-IDI files directly from the correlator, not for "uvfits" files
that have been processed in AIPS once already (perhaps here by automatic
procs).

DBCON is designed to place one data set after another for data sets
observed at different times.  The VLBI chapter of the CookBook will 
tell you what to do with your two data sets - run VBGLU.  That is
designed to take data observed at the same time but correlated into 
different IFs and produce one with more IFs.

I do not understand your final remarks about the Stokes - send the
output of IMHEAD (verb) and explain where you got the information
you tried to convey.
