When you say "old" computer and "new" computer - what do you mean?  Was 
one a Solaris computer or a Mac PPC whilst the new one is a Linux or Mac 
Intel machine?

If so, there are major problems and you cannot do what you tried to do.
AIPS does provide a stand-alone program to do what you want called REBYTE.

If both were Linux boxes with Intel cpus, then this is not the problem.
Are the "missing" files on disk 1 or 2?  If 2, there might be a missing 
CA file - exit aips and see if it deletes the CA file on disk 2.  If it 
does the temporary one created when you started was empty.  If it does 
not, then the CA file contains things that PCAT is not showing.

I need more information to help you...
