Why would you need to?  Actually, OBIT (Bill Cotton's package "for the 
recently deceased") and ParselTongue packages for VLBI in Europe use a 
python scripting language to run both AIPS tasks and their own programs 
in a combined environment.  But they have to go to lots of work to make 
sure the AIPS environment is set up - there are logicals that must be 
known in orderto find things.
