I am not surprised by needing the SUBLIBs to have
that option.  sprintf is used explicitly only in
C routines and they are only in $LIBR/APLSUB from the
$APLGEN tree.  Of course what the Fortran compiler uses
is unknown to me and may vary with time and compiler.
