New Staff Reply: TV startup problem on Mac/Intel

The most likely cause of the "shared memory failure" is that you have
not followed the suggestions on the AIPS Manager FAQ page - see
    http://www.aips.nrao.edu/aipsmgr/
where you are given instructions about creating a file to allow for
shared memory pages large enough to hold the AIPS TV (full screen
and 32-bit).

Since it did seem to work once at least, another possibility might be
the method you are using to close the AIPS TV. If you use a "kill -9"
either intentionally or by using some shortcut that does the kill -9
such as clicking the x in the upper right corner or killing X Windows or
???, then XAS does not have a chance to use its abort handler which gives
up the current shared memory pages, closes the lock daemon, etc. The
shared pages may then be locked away and eventually you run out of them.
Use the aips verb KLEENEX to exit, shutting down the TV or hit the Esc key
with the cursor in the TV window.
