Hi Eric,

Sorry this is LNX64

I did some googling after emailing you. If I understand it right,  
Debian Etch ships with glibc 2.3.x, which is quite old because glibc  
2.4 was not supported on all hardware Debian officially runs on.  
Though I'm surprised there are not other people running Debian Etch  
and using AIPS.

I will ask out local guys to see if they have any suggestions and get  
back to you.

I also tried just doing the source install but hit firewall problems  
so got annoyed and gave up. Will try and sort it all out next week.
