I didn't realize that you were trying to compile the code locally. That
is a bad idea unless you really need to create special aips programs for
your own use. You should say
perl install.pl -n
to get network (binary) install. The load modules run much faster on
ordinary Linux desktops than those compiled with the gnu compiler. The
.AIPSRC file has a parameter about this. Change it to yes and try the
command above. Do check your $AIPS_ROOT/HOSTS.LIST to make sure that
your computer appears by the name you intend to use with the site name
you now intend to use and the LINUX operating system.
