A couple of things come to mind.  First the resolution numbers are odd. 
So he should try and adjust the display setting, on the X11 menu there 
is a preferences dialog that will allow adjust the # of colors, if it's 
ticked then he will need to adjust the display options from the system 
perferences. One could also adjust the # of colors using the X11 
preferences diaglog, but better to reset the osx display parameters.

As why the output would be different, what version of the OS are you 
running? Likely this would be the cause.
