What kind of file system do you have for the aips data disk?  The error 
message says that renaming a file is not allowed - although apparently 
creating a new one is.  I seem to remember that this happens on 
partitions that are some non-standard (to Unix) type - e.g. DOS, 
Microsoft, ...  I would suggest trying a mv command in your data area 
but that might work when the rename opcode that we use does not.  Our 
systems guy is on vacation until July unfortunately.
