[daip] AIPS compile problem

Greetings. Jim Bodie here again. I want to thank you for fixing the
problem you had with the full disk. I was able to download everything
this morning. However, that does not mean I had a lot of success with the
install...

I first tried a binary only installation. The file MAKE.BMNJ failed to
download and I could not do a "RUN FILAIP" as that was missing. I then
decided to try a compile. It failed during the INSTEP2 step. It compiled
for quite a while until it got to "Process $APLGEN/...".

It looks like everything failed to compile. There were mostly messages
pertaining to improper union data type definitions. While I normally
don't mind tweaking C source to make it work, I don't want to delve into
something the size of AIPS!

The only change I made was to change -xtarget=generic to -xtarget=ultra as
we have nothing here that is older than the UltraSPARC platform. I
changed the "ultra" back to "generic" in the .AIPSRC file and that made no
difference.

My compiler is the Sun Studio 11 compiler with all the current patches.
We'd be running Studio 12, but I haven't had time to upgrade just yet.
Can you tell me what version of the Sun compiler suite you use to test
that AIPS will actually compile?

If there is anything I described in the above text that stands out, please
let me know ASAP. My astronomers are rather anxious to be able to use the
2007 version of AIPS. Thanks!

Jim Bodie
