If you cd to the $AIPS_ROOT area and do an rm -rf you will completely
remove anything to do with aips other than changes to the system
services.  Of course this might also delete all your data.

Usually people just recompile.  Normally I would assume on a Mac that
you do a binary install - in which case the gcc compiler is of no
interest.  It would depend on what is not working whether a full
installation is worth the trouble.
