That is almost certainly the problem.  The 3.3.x compilers have done
this sort of thing to quite a lot of tasks.

Consider switching to the binary version - it will run faster (about
30% or more on Pentium IVs).  You can either reinstall

   perl install.pl -n

(-n => network meanin binary)

Or 

touch $SYSLOCAL/RSYNC.ME

and then run the MNJ.  I find the 3.4.3 and 3.4.4 compilers okay, but
necessary only if you are developing AIPS tasks locally.
