[daip] AIPS under Fedora Core and g77/gcc 3.4.4

     I'm not terribly suprised this is the case.   The FC3 kernel and 
RHEL
kernel probably share any Redhat 'tweaks'.   What would be really 
interesting
is to see whether a stock kernel has the same problem.   I'm guess the
answer is yes but we'll see (I don't think RH tweaks them as much as 
rumor
has it).

     I've got some other areas of curiousity where these kernels are 
concerned
so I think I'm going to snag a test machine and try a stock kernel.
