I am sorry to have sent you a confusing email.
I installed aips on a machine called linser. There it runs. The output
of START_AIPS is:

START_AIPS: User data area assignments:
   (Using global default file /usr/local2/misc/aips/DA00/DADEVS.LIST for
DADEVS.PL)
    Disk 1 (1) is /disk1/misc/aips/DATA/LINSER_1

Tape assignments:
    Tape 1 is REMOTE

START_AIPS: Starting TV servers on linser asynchronously
START_AIPS:  - WITH Unix Sockets as requested...
START_AIPS: Starting TPMON daemons on LINSER asynchronously...
Starting up 31DEC05 AIPS with normal priority
Begin the one true AIPS number 1 (release of 31DEC05) at priority =   0
AIPS 1: You are not on a local TV device, welcome stranger
AIPS 1: You are assigned TV device/server   9
AIPS 1: You are assigned graphics device/server   9

Now I try to run it from aida33 (invoking the linser installation which
is on a NFS readolny mounted disk).

There it keeps hanging. But here also the MSGSRV and the TEKSRV windows
pop up.

I already did what is written in the FAQ under "How do I configure a new
AIPS host machine?"

I wonder whether I forgot something or violated a read/write permission.
