We have started to encounter this problem a lot.  There is no good
answer - the problem seems to be when a computer talks to itself via
an Internet socket.  When computers talk to a different computer on
such sockets, the AIPS TV and other things work well.  But when
talking to itself, the cursor seems to be read only once in a while
and the whole response is very jerky.

Starting aips with

       aips tv=local

(see CookBook chapter 2 or help aips for full grammar) starts with
Unix sockets instead and that seems to work rather better in these
cases.
