[daip] Puzzling loader error in AIPS install on 64bit machine

To Whom it May Concern,

   I am getting this error at the link stage for XAS:

  /usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lXext

   Eric has warned me that this is likely to do bad things later, though I have not got near to INSTEP4 yet.

In spite of this ld error, do have the following:

/usr/X11R6/lib/libXext.so.6 which is a symlink to

/usr/X11R6/lib/libXext.so.6.4

  So it appears to me that I do have the libXext library. Do I need to fiddle with path variables to tell COMLNK to look in /usr/X11R6/lib ? I confess that I am highly ignorant
of these elementary things.
