The FDEFAULT refers to a compiler

      COMPILER=/sw/bin/g77

Where LDOPTS.SH contains NO compiler

      COMPILER=

Lines with # at the start are comments and the case statement requires
a compiler to be defined before doing the case statement not after.

I do not know what compilers you have nor what these files should say
but clearly this is wrong and may stem from the contents of your
~/.AIPSRC file (which I suppose you should send us).
