I suspect somehow that this is not the case (I mess up which compiler
too much to be certain of anything in this area).  This looks just
like one of the many 3.3.3 bugs we have had reported.  I suspect that
the 6/2004 was done with some other compiler and then during 2004
sometime the version used was updated.

I get identical good plots from 31DEC02 through 31DEC05 with 2.95.3
and with the last two versions under 3.2.3,
