2) It looks like there are a couple of problems.  These errors:

usually mean that the user does not have write permission to
the AIPS directories.  Was the 31DEC04 version installed as
root?  Bad idea.

As for the no TV problem, that looks like a ssh problem.  Do
a 'ssh -v deneb pwd' as START_AIPS suggests to see if this
gives you any hints.
