It sounds as if the problem has healed itself. I was going to ask
if you had re-installed AIPS under the new OS and which compiler you
had used. We use GNU 3.2.2 under RedHat 9. Unless the slowness comes
back I would not worry about things.

Some machines have had trouble with $DISPLAY = <hostname>:0.0 so I
asked to see if you were using that or the more recent version. You
are using the recent version now.
