the welcome stranger message suggests to me that there is some error in the form of the $AIPS_ROOT/HOSTS.LIST file as well. Your site and architecture seem to be known but somehow it seems as if you are not expected to run a TV (and only one machine is since you get number 2). I get number 66 around here... Eric Greisen
