Dear Amy,
I tried that and a got an error that I did get before (at the end of each
file read from the disk). I guess I really should fix it first:

Let me try to explain it's probable origin: I have installed aips on my PC
with LINUX. I followed the instructions carefully and installed it under
an "aips" account, included in the group of "augusto" where user
"augusto" resides too. I did all this since it is not recommended to use
AIPS as "root". Now, for some reason, the Data area created (as
/mnt/dados/AUGUSTO_1) and all its contents belong to "root" (user and
group). I have now tried to change this (being superuser) with:
chown -R augusto: /mnt/dados/AUGUSTO_1/*
but it failed (using augusto:augusto also fails):
[root at augusto dados]# chown -R augusto: AUGUSTO_1/*

How do I fix this?
