The little/big endian is not an issue - that should work fine.

Your AIPS has had the TPMON break the connection and sent back an
errno of 1 saying something was not permitted.  Try running aips on
polaris and doing remote tape to polaris (that should work).  I do not
know what is not permitted.

The TPMON issues
                  "ZVTPGC: permission REFUSED for host %s (%s)\n",
if the TPHOSTS thing fails.  But you have to be getting the messages
from the TPMON.  Make sure you have access to the message server that
started TPMON (or xterm in the absence of msgserver).  They do not go
the message file (I suppose they should but if user 1 message file is
missing then things cause even more trouble...)
