Subject: Another fitdisk item
Date: Tue, 4 Feb 2003 09:54:41 -0700

If you leave inname etc blank for fitdisk, as one might try if
wanting to write out all the files, it comes back with a syntax error,
which leaves the user (eg me) wondering what went wrong. You might
want to detect this and ask for a name.

For whatever it's worth, writing a bit over a GByte worth of FITS
files (95 of them) to disk (same IDE disk that the AIPS files were on)
at home took about 7.5 minutes. Contrast that to the multiple
hours that it normally takes to write a similar amount of data to
my old DAT (yes DAT1 - they didn't distinguish in those days) drive.
It then took about 10 minutes to backup about 650 MB of those
files to a CD.

Cheers,

Craig
