[daip] 31DEC03 on a laptop

Nope, no error messages, all seems to compile fine and when I start AIPS
all looks perfect.  Then I enter a user number it hasn't seen before,
it starts up (again looking spiffy), and I type

>uc
AIPS 1: SYMBOL?    UC
> type 2+2
AIPS 1: SYMBOL?    TYPE
> exit
AIPS 1: SYMBOL?    EXIT

after which I ^C in disgust.  So I try aips again, this time with a
user number I've used previously in 31DEC02, and now all is happy:

>type 2+2
AIPS 1:            4
>exit
...usual stuff ensues...

Weird, huh?
