[daip] problems installing 31dec01 (md5sum)

The command

md5sum 31DEC01.tar.gz

should produce an output rather promptly (although it does take a
little while to read the 40 Mbytes).  If it really does not work, I
would just procede with the installation.  This md5sum step is just to
check that the tar file was copied successfully.
