I have now run a test of sorts on Greg's laptop where he built 31DEC02
with 3.0.3 compiler.  When I ran the Y2K, COMB died - not with an
"abort" - but with an error message about LUN=****.  Recompiling COMB
without optimisation, fixed that problem and the Y2K ran to completion
with the usual sorts of bits of disagreement and a reasonable time.

When you say COMB aborts did you really mean a compute abort or just
a quick aips wierd error message exit?
