I'm all in favor of putting VLBAMCAL into VLBALOAD.
We tried in the past to get Chris to put the table
merging into FITLD; he had some claimed scientific
reason why this wasn't always a good idea, but I
think the real (and understandable!) reason was that
he didn't want to complicate FITLD any more.
