[daip] AIPS/Linux problems dealing with large data files

Dear Sirs,

We have installed "Aips for the ages" (31DEC01) at some linux machines
(debian distribution 2.2) and discovered that the system does not work
well with data files that exceed the size of 2,147.483.647 bytes (2**31 -1).

This problem makes not possible to backup an existing AIPS data file (which
may be compressed) into a disk FITS file (which is not compressed and therefore
is also much larger).

We wonder if you are aware of this problem, probably related with Linux
and not so much with AIPS, and if you know a solution to it.

Thanks in advance for your attention, and best regards.
