This implies that you are mixing release of software. I see
this when I compile on my new RedHat 7.2 machine but use the libraries
compiled on a RedHat 6.2 (the version of many of our machines and so
the one used for the users' aips). I assume that this will go away
when the entire system is built on a later machine. the open.o and
f_open are not aips routines but system library routines. I have
noticed no problems with this. The symbol tempnam does not occur in
the aips code.

Why would you want this? Unlike the MSGserver, this server is only
used if the user explicitly asks for it via TKPL and the TK verbs in
aips. It is much faster for line plots than the TV so many users set
DOTV=-1 in their plot programs and then GO TKPL. If a particular user
does not want it on his screen it can be killed in several ways: A
CTRL-C in the window or the menus you get with CTRL and mouse buttons
are all ways to dispense with it.

I suppose if you give me a good reason we could add such a logical.

Eric
