You should be able to control the sizes of the crosses by specifying
them in your input stars file.  Try "Explain STARS" for the format.
For example, in the following STARS file, the first two positions
are plotted as crosses with a gap (type 20) and are 15 arcsec by
15 arcsec.  The last two positions are plotted as normal crosses
(type 0) and are 10 arcsec by 10 arcsec (columns 3 and 4).

Sample file follows:

  12 01 56.03  -18 53 22.2   15.  15. 0.  20  SN_1974E(J2000)
  12 01 55.52  -18 52 47.2   15.  15. 0.  20  SN_1921E
  12 01 52.82  -18 52 05.2   10.  10. 0.  0   N4038 Nucleus
  12 01 53.62  -18 53 12.2   10.  10. 0.  0   N4039 Nucleus
