Eric,
The following info goes on the jewel case insert(4.5 in x 4.5 in).
Needs to be updated for 31DEC01 distribution; could you do so, and
return to me ASAP. I've sent a bunch out already with the outdated
info, but would like to correct before sending out anymore.
Thanks,
Ernie

\centerline{\bf \AIPS\ 31DEC00 CDROM INSTALLATION --- LINUX VERSION}\medskip
\item{1.} You need Linux kernel 2.x and glibc (libc version 6)
to run the binaries on this disk. Red Hat 6.2, kernel 2.2.16, and
egcs 1.1.2 were used to generate them. If you rebuild from source, we
recommend EGCS (1.1.2 or better) compilers, or gcc 2.95 and its g77
companion (but not the 2.96 ``release''). On non-RedHat systems you
may need the {\it termcap\/} library installed.
\item{2.} You may need to edit the {\tt /etc/fstab} file to ensure
the {\tt exec} option is set on the CDROM mount point, {\it
e.g.\/}:\par
\line{\hskip 2cm {\tt /dev/cdrom\ \ %
/mnt/cdrom\ \ %
iso9660 noauto,user,nosuid,exec,ro\ \ %
0 0}\hfill}\par
\item{} On some systems, the CD may be otherwise mounted {\tt noexec} and
the binaries and {\tt CDSETUP} script will not run.
\item{3.} This {\tt 31DEC00} CD release uses the {\tt install.pl} perl
based ``installation wizard'' instead of the older {\tt INSTEP1} (do
{\it not\/} run {\tt INSTEP1}!). Check the release web page at {\tt
http://www.cv.nrao.edu/aips/dec00.shtml} for a newer version of {\tt
install.pl} before proceeding (and if so, get it, put it in the {\tt
AIPS\_ROOT} area, and re-run {\tt CDSETUP}).
\item{4.} If running \AIPS\ from the CDROM, edit {\tt
31DEC00/SYSTEM/UNIX/STARTPMON}:\par
\line{\hskip 2cm {\tt enode=`ls -i \$load/TPMON.EXE | awk '$\lbrace$ print \$1$\rbrace$ '`} \hfill}
\line{\hskip 2cm {\tt inode=\$enode}\hfill}\par
\item{} after you have finished the install.
\item{5.} If running \AIPS\ from local disk, use the {\tt bash} shell to do:\par
\line{\hskip 2cm {\tt cd 31DEC00/LINUX/LOAD; i=1; while [ \$i -lt 10 ] ; do} \hfill}
\line{\hskip 2cm {\tt\ \ rm XAS\$i TPMON\$i TKSRV\$i MSSRV\$i TVSRV\$i;
ln XAS XAS\$i}\hfill}
\line{\hskip 2cm {\tt\ \ ln TVSERV.EXE TVSRV\$i; ln TEKSRV.EXE TKSRV\$i}\hfill}
\line{\hskip 2cm {\tt\ \ ln MSGSRV.EXE MSSRV\$i; ln TPMON.EXE TPMON\$i}\hfill}
\line{\hskip 2cm {\tt\ \ i=`expr \$i + 1`}\hfill}\par
\line{\hskip 2cm {\tt done}\hfill}\par
\item{}This cures an inode problem specific to CDROMs and hard links.
