[daip] Y2K on vortex

I have tested the new mega-machine in GB. It is a Solaris box with 4
Gbytes of memory and at poresent no users. I tested first with simple
data disks and then with raid disks using the old SOL (non-Ultra
specific load modules) and then build a SUL using -fast and the
version 6 compiler on vortex. The results are not so good - the
accuracies of the images and data are fine but the speeds disappoint:

Test DDT Y2K
              sec AMark sec AMark

SOL /data 152 26.3 1527 26.2
SOL /raid 142 28.2 1522 26.3

SUL /raid 165 24.2 1686 23.7

This suggests that some of the optimization done by -fast is
counterproductive With non-Ultra load modules the single-head
performance matches that of a single-head of a Pentium III 800 MHz
Linux box.
