[daip] problem with AIPS installation

Dear Designated AIP:

     We have been having trouble installing AIPS on a debian linux system.
The installation seems to go well until it tries to run "FILAIP", at which
point the following error occurs.


Data disk assignments:
  (Using global default file /home/aips/DA00/DADEVS.LIST)
  Disk 1 (1) is /home/aips/DATA/GEORGE_1

Starting up FILAIP (RELEASE OF 31DEC00)

 ZMSGOP: FILE DA01:MSD001000.001;	NOT FOUND
MSGWRT ERROR	2 AT OPEN
FILAT1: ABORT!
Illegal instruction

I have no idea where that MSd001000.001 file is meant to live.  I was
trying the 31DEC00 version of AIPS because the '01 version failed with the
same error.  Any help you can give me would be /greatly/
