You're not doing something wrong, and I've reproduced the behaviour.  I'm
investigating...

I suspect the problem is with the UNSHR program and its unpacking of
stuff.  I really would prefer to go with tar format, or just use the
individual files in place of XAS.SHR (Eric?), but that's not helpful in
terms of your current dilemma.

I've already found one bug in AIPSASSN.SH: replace ["$ with [ "$ on one
line (missing space), and I'm making a lot of bug/annoyance/etc fixes to
install.pl.  I'll append the new version of AIPSASSN.SH here; this goes in
$SYSUNIX and your $AIPS_ROOT area.  But I need to spend a little more time
with install.pl as it still has some warts.
