[daip] TV PROBLEM

eric: i'm trying to resolve a problem with the aips tv. 
here's the output from an aips session. the aips tv 
window opens, commands such as tvinit run without 
error (note: they do not 'blink' the screen), but 
i cannot display anything. tvlo returns only a very 
brief error message:

 AIPS 1: TV PROBLEM

do you have any suggestions as to what may be wrong? 
i'm starting aips on a full 'aips host' and running the tv
window on the same host aips is running on - sitting
at the console of this host. aips is 
started without any command line options. 

the version is 31DEC01 in a solaris 5.8 environment.
