Sounds to me like he has a bad tape. Does anyone have other insights
based on what he showed?

You are right. I should use fillm for archive data.
I tried to do a PRTTP but I got an error:

I tried to use the unix command mt -f /dev/rmt/0n and all I got was:
usage: mt [ -f device ] command [ count ]
When I run FILLM it stars fine and then gives the parity error similar to
above. HEre is a truncated example:
