[daip] AIPS tarball

That's odd.  When I test the tarball:

  -rw-r--r--    1 aipsmgr  aipspgmr 41212840 Dec  5 00:22 31DEC00.tar.gz

with a "gunzip -t" and even a "tar zxvf" it works and I get these files:

    : orangutan_pmurphy; find 31DEC00 -type f -print | wc -l
       5172
    : orangutan_pmurphy; find TEXT -type f -print | wc -l
        421
    : orangutan_pmurphy; expr 5172 + 421
    5593
    : orangutan_pmurphy; 

as well as the REGISTER and INSTEP1 files in the root area (INSTEP1 no
longer used).  I also checked the md5sum:

    b448be4545fc42e1b5356c91b4e3351c  31DEC00.tar.gz

I've now altered the script that generates the nightly tarball so that it
also generates a 31DEC00.tar.gz.md5sum file, and inserted links in the
relevant web page.

I suspect that your ftp attempts may have not obtained the full file,
though your first attempt:

The first one seems to show the right size.  The "c" at the end indicates
complete transfer and the "b" following the filename indicated binary
transfer.  The second one shows "i" at the end indicating an incomplete
transfer, and the number of bytes transferred (49152) verifies this.

I'm confused as to why the first one would not unpack correctly.  Try
"md5sum" on it and make sure it's ok.

but both of  was an incomplete "i" transaction, so these are no good.
