Did you remember to reset USERID to zero?  This is the most common reason
for such apparent disappearing files.

If that is not the problem, I'll need to see the inputs to, and output
from, the CATALOG verb for both userid's, and also a "ls -l" of the data
area (or at least the relevant *.nnn\; files).
