Dear MODEST colleagues,
This is an announcement of two satellite MODEST meetings in Kobe,
Japan, both starting next month. They are held in connection
with the recent opening of center for the K computer in Kobe,
currently the fastest computer in the world (http://technology-headlines.com/2011/06/20/japan%E2%80%99s-k-computer-becomes-fastest-supercomputer-in-the-world/)
Since Jun is connected with one the five pilot projects for the K
computer, he has been given the opportunity to organize some related
activities: hence these workshops. We apologize for the late warning,
but everything here happened very fast, and we got the final green
light just now.
MODEST-10c will run for seven weeks, from Aug 1 till Sep 17.
During that time, Jun Makino and I, as the organizers, will be
present in Kobe the whole time. See
http://v1.jmlab.jp/redmine/projects/summer-2011-kobe-workshop/wiki/English_Page
where you can also see a list of invited participants, and the
expected durations of their stay. During this longer working workshop
period, we can divide our time between working on our own codes and
having general informal discussions and collaborations.
MODEST-10d will run for only two days, Aug 23-24. See
http://v1.jmlab.jp/redmine/projects/summer-2011-kobe-workshop/wiki/Workshop_Aug_23-24
As you can see on that page, we will have four speakers during the
first day, while the second day will be free for informal discussions
concerning the questions raised during the first day, concerning the
main topic: "High-Level Languages for Hugely Parallel Astrophysics
Simulations". We have invited a number of astrophysicists as well as
computer scientists to join us for those two days.
If you are interested in joining us for MODEST-10d or (part of)
MODEST-10c please contact either Jun or me, so that we can make
a head count of how many people will participate. We have some
space limitations, but in general we expect to be able to
accomodate a fair number of extra participants.
Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any further
questions, either to Jun (makino at cfca.jp) or me (piet at ias.edu)
directly, or in case of more general questions, you can of course
reply to this message to the whole MODEST email group.
Greetings from Jun,
Piet
