accessibility we want for other purposes, it is desirable to
have a route to all pads (so that all antennas are accessible
without first moving another antenna - but allowing that some
antennas must stop observing and be parked facing away
to allow access).
Given the above desire for accessibility it may be possible
to do without the ability to drive over pads without
significant loss in scientific capability - I'm presently
checking this. Again it might be optimum to move
over one or two pads (as in the Kogan one-road
design) - but having a different design
for some foundations sounds like a costly option
and should be avoided if at all possible.
3) Pad movement
At the configuration telecon
there was also a worry about whether the motion of the
transporter past occupied pads would cause movements in the
pad positions at the sub-millimetre level, which would
then require re-calibration of the baselines.
Again from foundation experts we need advice
on the implications of driving very heavy trucks close
to pads - and we need this very soon, given these
compact array pads will be one of the first items to be built.
4) Underground extent of pads
