All Concerned:

On behalf of Jim Firmani, the HR Division is releasing the following
ALMA related announcement.

Effective December 1, 2008 the Observatory will implement a new policy
known as the "Temporary Field Service Allowance in Chile." This policy
is meant to offset hardship costs incurred by the NRAO employee being
away from home for an extended temporary period of time to work in Chile
for the NA ALMA Project, construction and/or operations or the NA ARC.
The period would be more than 3 weeks (21 days) but less than 12 months.
The specific requirements of the policy are listed on the back of the
short-term assignment approval form. (A sample form is attached for your
review.)

The short-term assignment letter and the allowance are only available
when signed by the IPT Leader or Division Head with budget authority for
the ALMA work project. This policy is subject to change or deletion due
to miss-use, budget restrictions or other unforeseeable reasons.

If you have questions feel free to contact Roy Norville, Allen Lewis or
Jim Firmani.

Clear skies,
Al
