                      FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT

  RadioNet workshop on Measurement of atmospheric water vapour: theory,
          techniques, astronomical and geodetic applications

                      Wettzell, Germany
                      October 9-11, 2006

This meeting brings together astronomers, geodesists and
meteorologists who are developing and using radiometers to measure
tropospheric constitutents for correction of propagation effects and
for atmospheric studies.  The meeting provides a platform to learn
about and compare the different hardware and retrieval algorithms in
use and to identify potential for improvements.


Workshop Topics

 * Review of WVRs for geodetic VLBI: performance and requirements

 * Review of WVRs for opacity and phase correction of radio and mm
    observations

 * Tutorial on atmospheric processes and radiative transfer effects

 * Review of retrieval algorithms used in meteorology

 * Tour of the Wettzell Fundamental Station

Location and Transportation
---------------------------
 The meeting will be held near Wettzell Fundamental Station, at
  the Landhotel Miethaner ( http://www.landhotel-miethaner.de ).

 Transfers by shuttle bus will be arranged to bring participants
  from the train station at Plattling to the Landhotel Miethaner.

 A limited number of seats may be available in private cars travelling
  from Munich to Wettzell to pick up participants arriving at Munich airport.
  More details will come in the second announcement.

 Rental cars are available at Munich airport.  From Munich airport
  (Flughafen Muenchen 2, 85356 Freising (Attaching), Flughafen Muenchen)
  to 93444 Koetzting is 160 km requiring 2 h under normal traffic conditions.


Accommodation
-------------
 Thirty rooms have been reserved in the Landhotel Miethaner for the
 nights of Oct 8th, 9th and 10th.  Therefore, your registration for the
 workshop is sufficient and you do not need to make individual reservations.
 If more than thirty attendees register, we will book additional
 rooms in another hotel and arrange transfers each morning and evening
 to the Landhotel Miethaner for the meeting.

 The cost per night is 35 EUR incl. breakfast

  but not exclusively for European participants.
