Dear all,

Following the suggestion from ASAC, the ALMA Design Reference Science
Plan (DRSP) is being extended to include ALMA bands 4, 5, and 8, and
ACA.

I am approaching you because you are the author of one or more
projects in the original DRSP (1.0). I would like to ask you if you
could review your project, taking into account the increased
capability of ALMA as well as evolving science questions. Entirely new
projects can of course also be submitted.

You can find more information at

http://www.strw.leidenuniv.nl/~alma/drsp.shtml

which also includes all projects from DRSP 1.0. Even if you foresee no
updates for your project, I would appreciate if you could resubmit
your previous project with the slightly revised project 'template',
which can be found at the same web site. This should involve no more
than simple cut-and-paste, and providing a small amount of additional
information. This additional information is highly valuable for later
estimates of, for example, average and peak data rates and other
'derivatives' of the DRSP.

As for DRSP 1.0 there are 'coordinators' for the various topics; see
the list on the web site. Feel free to contact your coordinator or
myself with questions. And expect your coordinator to contact you as
well.

I would greatly appreciate receiving your updates and new projects by
OCTOBER 1 2006.

Thank you very much in advance for your time.

With kind regards,

Michiel Hogerheijde

----------------------------------------------------------------------

- DRSP 2.0: For DRSP 2.0 new projects can be suggested that make use
  of any of the bands 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, or 9, and existing projects
can be updated to make use of new capabilities or to reflect
progress in science questions. Projects can also make use of the
ACA, either as a stand-alone array or through ACA-baseline_ALMA
cross-correlation. In addition, authors of existing DRSP projects
are encouraged to updated their projects using the DRSP 2.0 form,
which contains a few additional questions, including the required
  calibration accuracy.

- Template: The template for DRSP 2.0 is available on the web,
alongside other information (e.g., DRSP 1.0, and the calibration
requirements for these projects filed in 2004) at

  http://www.strw.leidenuniv.nl/~alma/drsp.shtml

- Timescale: The foreseen time line is as follows:

       1 July 2006 : Announcement of DRSP 2.0
1 October 2006: DRSP projects due
1 November 2006: Due date review of the the projects by
members of ESAC, ASAC, and ANASAC (tbc)
15 November 2006: Reply by DRSP authors to reviews due
15 December 2006: Final DRSP 2.0 on the web, and summarized in a
                          report to ASAC
