Could I ask whether there is a servo simulation of even a generic ALMA antenna
available for us to look at, or is what has been done strictly confidential? I
have been involved in similar discussions on servo performance of optical
telescopes, and it is usual to set up a model including the digital and analogue
servo loops and a reasonably realistic model of the dynamic response at least of
the axis in question, if not of the whole telescope (there are many packages
around which do this - servo engineers I've worked with in the past have used
Simulink). I think that this is the only way to get a quantitative answer to
questions about positional accuracy during fast scans.
