yes, this is another way to look at it, but the presumption is that you
can even get to equivalent resolution (while retaining decent sensitivity).
in practice, the gain from very heavy tapering of VLA data is about a
factor of 4 in beam area, but you lose about a factor of 1.5 in sensitivity
from the tapering, so, the total improvement in brightness sensitivity with
very heavy tapering on the VLA is about a factor of 2.5. so, divide my
number of 30 in the previous by 2.5, and you still get a factor of 12.
