Al, All:

I think the noise from the sky brightness fluctuations is correlated
across frequency channels, so when you add up the channels, you
don't gain anything.   Also, as there is no spectral signal,
you don't win by being able to track a spectral baseline as it goes up and
down.  So, I think total power continuum observations are the same
if you do them in spectral line mode or just a single channel.
