Although I read these bits and return them as part of the monitoring
data, they aren't actually used to determine the IP address as
originally intended. This turned out to be unneeded, since the DHCP
server here is capable of assigning fixed IP addresses to a given
computer, based on its unique ethernet address. The DHCP method is
also more convenient than the original scheme, because it can assign
different addresses according to which IP address domain the computer
is plugged into. This is important, because the IP domain in the lab
differs from that of the GBT.
